A Civil War veteran (Tom Hanks) agrees to deliver a 10-year-old girl, who was taken by the Kiowa people years earlier, to her aunt and uncle against her will. They travel hundreds of miles across the harsh plains of Texas and face grave dangers as they search for a place that each can call home.
