The New York Times says, “Give thanks this morning, children of Broadway, and throw in a hearty hallelujah. The Color Purple has been born again, and its conversion is a glory to behold.”

Adapted from the 1982 best-selling novel by Alice Walker and awarded the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, The Color Purple tells the searing story of a young black woman's harrowing and tumultuous journey to find love and triumph in the American South. Steven Spielberg adapted the novel into a film in 1985 and Oprah Winfrey, who was featured in the film, has gone on to become an important champion and co-producer of the musical.

Hailed as a direct hit to the heart, this joyous classic not only conquered Broadway with its soul raising score of jazz, gospel, ragtime, and blues, but also won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. The Color Purple is an exhilarating musical experience not to be missed.
