Blair Thompson will present “Asteroids, Part 2: When What’s Up Comes Down and Rearranges Geology,” the formation of planetary systems, and what happens when the parts collide. Asteroids Part 1 covered what they are and how we know. Asteroids Part 2 will address their Natural History, starting with their origins using New Information about Planet and Exo-Planet formation as a guide. Essentially all visible surfaces in the Solar System are cratered, largely due to Asteroid impacts. We will review the mechanics of these very high velocity impacts and their Geologic and Biologic effects. The program will be free and open to all SC residents.
