Bring your camera(s) and manuals. Point & shoot and DSLR are welcome. We’ll bounce back and forth. I carry/use both. We won’t be covering Idevices.
Differences between P&S and DSLR:
- interchangeable lenses,
- control over the big three – shutter speed, f/stop and ISO, and
- viewer (through the lens, rangefinder, led screen)
We’ll talk about how those impact you.
Who’s got what?
Discussion – review of equipment.
Okay, here are some basics:
- Patience – things change
Ansel Adams / Tim Wolf
- Exposure – some tricks. Think about icons. Bracketing. Point and move. When in doubt, underexpose.
- Get close – change lenses, zoom up, step forward – unless…
- Step back – get the big picture
- Near & Far – love near stuff. Think about DOF. What do you want to show? Icons can screw you up. Think it through if you can.
- More near & far – show scale. Pyramids aren’t big unless you make them big. Find a reference…
- Depth of field:
- Here’s the big one
- The balloon triangle
- Who’s lost?
Flipchart – triangle, light coming into sensor, perfection – 100 ISO, f/22 @ 125 – impossible
