Practice Your Fire Escape Plan
October is Fire Prevention Month and the Georgetown Fire Department encourages residents to plan and practice your escape from your home in the event of fire because today’s home fires burn faster than ever.
In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Knowing how to use that time wisely takes planning and practice.
- Have a fire escape plan for your home.
- Practice your escape plan.
- Make sure you have working smoke detectors.
Click Here for more information about home escape planning.

Note: No testing will be conducted during severe weather or if there is a threat of severe weather to avoid confusion.
