Golf Course Enhancement Project update

Work on the golf course
enhancement project for White
Wing and Legacy Hills golf
courses has been ongoing throughout
the summer months. Any feedback you
have may be submitted to Gary Wilson,
director of golf, for distribution to the
Improvement Committee members. The
latest news is as follows:
– Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design
completed construction plans and
details in early August and handed
them off to project engineer Steger
Bizzell for permit preparation.
– Steger Bizzell has begun formatting
the documents for the various
governmental permit agencies, filling

There is still time to register for the final
MGA tournament of the year, the Fall
Member/Member. The tournament will
be held Oct. 26-27 with lunch following
play. Check the MGA website for more
information, then log on to www.sctexas.
org and click on BUY TICKETS to sign up.
With close to 600 members, the Men’s
Golf Association has over 100 golfing
events each year. These events pay
out approximately $50,000 in sweeps
annually, which members use to buy
merchandise in the Sun City Texas
Pro Shops. This is just one benefit of
membership in the MGA.
The MGA would not be what it is
without the volunteers who see that our

out the requisite forms and creating
storm water and sediment control
plans. They are on track to finish
preparing the permit application
packages by the end of October.
– Permits will be officially applied for on driving range tees will take place with
or around Nov. 1. It is anticipated that
the permitting process will take until
the end of February 2017.
– The project is on track for bidding and
construction to begin in spring of 2017
and conclude in fall of 2017.
– Several contractors have already
visited the site. Additional visits are
anticipated in the fall to learn more
about the project ahead of the bidding
process.

Directors and Tournament Committee
meet monthly (excepting July) to review
the events that are planned, review the
finances, discuss issues involving golf
at Sun City Texas and find ways to add

As we move through this process it is
becoming clearer that the most extensive
work will occur on one course at one
time and will be limited to nine holes
at a time. The less intrusive work such
as new putting greens (if funds allow) or
no interruption to regular play on the
courses. To limit the restrictions during
this process, we plan to use a combination
of double tee and shotgun starts to
accommodate as many golfers as possible
with the least amount of inconvenience
while the work is being completed.
More updates will be available as the
permitting process gets underway later
this fall.
Committee is probably our most important
committee because it is through their
efforts we have a named sponsor for
each of our major tournaments, as well as
additional sponsors making contributions
in the form of sweeps, reduced tournament
fees and better meals at all events.
Finally, our members make the efforts of
the board and committees worthwhile. We
have members of all ages. Some have lived
in Sun City Texas since the beginning
while others only just moved here. It is my
experience that the long-time members try
to make the new members feel welcome
and explain the various games we play
each week.
