Wilsonart Home & Factory Tour and Salado
Glass Works – Temple and Salado

Lunch on your own
Thursday, September 29, $39 pp
Depart SCPL 8:30 a.m.; Depart 4:30 p.m.

Tour the Wilson House, built by
                     Ralph Wilson, founder of Wilsonart
Engineered Surfaces. Frozen in time, this
1959 ranch style home features decorative
                     laminates in innovative applications never
before seen in a home. From laminate clad kitchen cabinets to
decorative wall coverings and furnishings, the Wilson House
represented an ideal design for affordable, fashionable residential
housing, and has had a profound influence on the current uses
of laminate. Next we tour the factory from drawing board to
finished product in the high tech manufacturing world of
Wilsonart.
Lunch is on your own at Clem Mikeska’s BBQ, featuring a
wide selection of slow smoked meats, homemade sides, and
cool drinks.
Our final tour to Salado Glass Works says, “Come for the
Art, Be Intrigued by the Experience, Stay for the Fire.” Enjoy
a live presentation on the art of glass blowing. During the
demonstration, one lucky guest will participate in blowing their
own glass pumpkin to take home.
Note: You will be walking and standing in the factory for
approximately 1 hour. There are two set of stairs. Only very
small bags are allowed and closed shoes are required.
Ticket cost includes transportation and tour fees.

                                                               Following
statehood in 1845, settlers streamed west with
the hope of new opportunities. Frontier
soldiers built forts linking wild country with
                     settled lands, while protective Native
Americans defended these prairies as their traditional buffalo
hunting and trading grounds. Join us for the stories and explore
the places where history was made along the Texas Forts Trail.
Tuesday – Our adventure begins with Fort Mason and the
Mason County Courthouse Square. Explore tales of Old Yeller,
the Texas Blue Topaz, and the 1875 Mason County Hoodoo War.
