Spring Break!
In the early years, Sun City Texans traded winter winds
for sunny days on the sandy shores of South Padre Island.
Residents took to the waves, testing their seafaring skills
on kayaks, sailboards and jet skis. Others simply kicked
back on the beach, perfecting the fine art of relaxation.
I remember when...
“While a few years have slipped by since this wonderful event, I fondly
remember taking a group of fun loving Sun City residents to South
Padre Island and ‘Taking Back the Beach’ from the youngsters for a
few days. We had a great time enjoying your typical beach activities
including a climbing wall, volleyball and Frisbee.
One evening our Senior Spring Breakers took a fun boat ride to a rustic
setting where we enjoyed wonderful BBQ and a camp fire. I fondly
remember our group seeing dolphins on the way to the island and
the beautiful setting for our outdoor south Texas dinner. Fortunately,
the caterers/ crew found a very large rattlesnake close to our dining
area (picnic tables and hay bales) before it had a chance to wrap itself
around someone’s ankle.
Sun City Texas definitely left its mark on South Padre Island and with-
out any doubt, took back the beach that year!”
