Influenced by their vacations in Ari-
zona, Lee and Cynthia Miller have made
clean lines and native plantings a prior-
ity in their yard. A creative hardscape
was developed by a professional land-
scaper who incorporated their desire to
use regional stone and recycled metals
that would patina over time. A drought
resistant assortment of carefully se-
lected agaves, yuccas, cactus and pe-
rennials achieve the park-like feel they
enjoyed in Arizona. In this garden, you
will find touches of Cynthia’s handmade
mosaic art and potted succulent col-
lections. Colorful perennials that at-
tract bees, birds and butterflies dance
in the sunshine from spring until first
frost. Since Lee is the water ambas-
sador for Neighborhood 57, the Millers
strive to set an example for landscape
sustainability and water conservation.
In addition to installing the drought
resistant plantings, the original sprin-
kler system was replaced with drip ir-
rigation and a rain barrel added. They
