UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS
Be-bop with Buddy!
On Wednesday,
January 29, Solos will travel through
time to September 1958―the first day of
school at Solos Senior High School. The
ballroom will magically become a high
school cafeteria, where students and fac-
ulty will feast on delicious cafeteria food
while listening to 1950s music―hit tunes
fromBuddy Holly himself! Youwill become
acquainted with your new board members
as you’ve never known them before. This
will be the 2014 membership rally, so pro-
spective members are cordially invited to
enjoy the event for half the price. Watch
your email for further information.
Solos’ Weekly Happy Hour
is held
Thursdays at The Oaks from 5:30-7 p.m.
If you are new, our membership committee
will greet you and introduce you to some
Solos. A warm and friendly atmosphere is
provided, so please bring your beverage of
choice and a glass.
The Solos Club encourages you to attend
three Solos’ activities before joining―come
check us out! You’ll be glad you did.

Calling all FCC-licensed ham
radio operators, shortwave listeners
(SWLs), and radio or scanning enthu-
siasts. If you want to be ‘radio-active’ in
your retirement, the Sun City Amateur
Radio Society (SCARS) may be for you.
SCARS meets monthly, has a couple of
special-interest coffee groups, and hosts
a directional finding ‘Fox Hunt’ field
event every 2nd Saturday of the month
beginning at 9 a.m.
A fully equipped ham shack with HF
analog & SDR rigs, and VHF/UHF ca-
pability is available for active member
use. SCARS also maintains the 441.625
MHz. Sun City repeater (+ offset, pl tone
103.5)―open for use by any licensed ama-

members assist Sun City Texas and the
Georgetown fire/police during local and
regional emergencies when supple-

needed. When normal communications
are down, ham radios still work and can
contact outside resources―locally, region-
ally, and worldwide.
Join us if interested!
Club meetings
normally start at 6:30 p.m. with a meet
