Water Matters
Submitted by Carlton M Mathis, Water Management
Last month, I reviewed the City of Georgetown’s water
restrictions; effective October 14, new restrictions were
put in place. The city has shifted to a two day a week wa-
ter schedule to help with some maintenance at the Lake
Stillhouse Reservoir supply line. This means that we will
be excluding the middle day from our address-assigned
watering schedule.
ODD ADDRESSES
Tuesday and/or Saturday
EVEN ADDRESSES
Wednesday and/or Sunday
Visit the City of Georgetown’s Water Services web page at water.georgetown.
org for more information.
Hopefully, you have already made adjustments to your controller to accom-
modate the cooler temperatures we will experience in months ahead. It is
important not to overwater during this time of year, as it can lead to fungus
in the landscape.
WATER SAVING TIPS:
• Designate one glass for your drinking water each day or refill a water
bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.
• Rather than following a set watering schedule, check for soil moisture
two to three inches below the surface before watering.
• Make sure the rain sensor on your irrigation controller is working so your
system doesn’t run while it’s raining.
• Don’t use running water to thaw food. Defrost food in the refrigerator for
water efficiency and food safety.
COPs’ Traffic Safety Town Hall
Wednesday, November 13, 9 a.m., SCB
Submitted by Citizens on Patrol (COPs)
There is not a day that goes by that we do not see an unsafe or illegal act on the
roads of Sun City Texas. Speeding, rolling stops, no turn signals, etc.―and that’s just
the golf carts. We see pedestrians walking in the dark without reflective clothing,
bicycles on sidewalks, and then there are the cars...This Town Hall is to remind all
of us
that we must be aware of the safety rules and we must obey the traffic laws
to keep us and our pets safe. The Town Hall will address special issues we have
as seniors and how they affect us, and the rules of the road. Speakers will include
representatives from the Georgetown Police Department, Ennis Golf Carts, AARP,
and other clubs and organizations within Sun City Texas.

8:30 a.m., Social Center

If you are new to Sun City Texas,
please join us for the NewResident
Orientation. At 8:30 a.m., the Club
Fair begins. Enthusiastic members
will visit with you and tell you
about their chartered clubs.
The Community Association staff
presentation begins at 9:15 a.m.
and ends around 10:15 a.m. You
will have an opportunity to meet
the staff, learn how your Associa-
tion operates, and gather valuable
information. There will be time
for questions, so bring them with
you. Refreshments will be served.
Time to Change
Your Clocks - and
Smoke Alarm
Batteries!
Daylight Saving Time ends on
Sunday, November 3, allowing
us an extra hour of sleep―and a
great reminder to change the bat-
teries in our smoke alarms, or re-
place the alarm unit entirely. Bat-
teries should be changed at least
once per year, while the smoke
alarm unit should be replaced
every 8-10 years. A properly in-
stalled and maintained smoke
alarm is the only thing in your
home that can alert you to a fire
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
According to the National Fire
Protection Association, almost
two-thirds of home fire deaths
resulted from fires in properties
without working smoke alarms.
While you’re setting back your
clocks, consider also checking
your smoke alarm―it could just
save your life.
