WGA 9-Hole Group

Spring weather brought us a mixture
of weather conditions! There were gor-
geous warm golf days, unexpected freez-
ing temperatures, and a bad hail storm.
However, golf went on even though tee
times were occasionally delayed due to
frost!
The last few months have been busy for
the WGA9 ladies. In March, 55 teams
competed in the Member-Member-Guest
tournament. A Partner’s Lauderdale
Scramble was the chosen format.
A 1 p.m. shotgun start was the plan for
the day; however, freezing temperatures
the night before and frost on the ground
pushed tee times back a little more than
an hour. Lee Matthews and his team did
a wonderful job getting the tournament
started as early as possible! The majority
of those registered accepted the situation
with laughs, persevered and waited until
conditions were a “go.” Although it took
much longer than usual to play the 9
holes, a memorable time was had!
As players concluded play and trickled
into the Cowan Creek Georgetown Room
for a social, there was pizza, salad and a
sweet treat awaiting them. Much laugh-
ter and sharing resonated throughout
the room. Susan Dimaline, tournament
chair, announced winners of each catego-
ry and presented themwith a certificate.
April featured the two day Eclectic
Tournament followed by presentation
of awards and a wine and cheese social.
This month our group will host the popu-
lar Sun Bowl on May 21 at Legacy Hills.
Golfers from surrounding clubs are in-
vited to join us. A catered luncheon will
be provided at the conclusion of play.
Our membership continues to grow! New
golfers or experienced golfers are invited
to join!
The USGA mandates that every golf
course be re-rated on a regular basis.
Our three Sun City courses are in the
process of having each course re-rated.
Cowan Creek was completed during the
first part of April, and we hope to have
White Wing and Legacy Hills completed
this month. As soon as this process is
completed, GHIN will be updated with
the new ratings and new, redesigned,
scorecards will be created with the new
information. We are very excited about
the new design of the scorecards and feel
resident golfers will be too, so be on the
lookout!
