MAY 2013
ONLINE:
SCTXCA.ORG
There is a very valuable tool available
to everyone, which is probably grossly
under utilized. It is the Sun City Golf
Calendar. You will find it by logging
on to
> click on
Golf &
Fitness
> click on
Golf for Residents
.
Then, click on
Calendar
on the blue
menu bar on the left side of the screen
of the Golf website.
The calendar is updated regularly and
is divided into months. So, let’s say you
were wondering when the President’s
Cup Tournament will be played. Go to
the May calendar and you will note the
WGA 18 hole holds their tournament on
May 6 and 7 while the MGA has chosen
May 15 and 16 for both the eighteen and
nine hole groups.
So, what course will be used for Bonus
9? Check the calendar and see the sched-
ule that rotates around to the different
courses throughout the year. You can see
for each day on each course when will
be the first tee time and whether it will
be a shotgun start (SG), single tee (ST)
or double tee (DT) sending players off
simultaneously on tees 1 and 10.
It’s easy for the members of the WGA and
MGA to learn on which course they will
be playing throughout the year simply
by checking the appropriate month, as
the schedule for the entire year is online.
Our golf courses are well utilized by our
residents on a daily basis, but there are
also some chartered club tournaments,
such as Zoomers, and neighborhood
group tournaments that are held on our
courses. You will find those events sched-
uled along with the Neighborhood Cup,
Nine and Dine, Holiday specials like the
St. Patrick’s Day tourney and special
events, such as the Superintendent’s
Revenge and the Chili Bowl Cookoff.
Our residents tend to play most during
the week and less during the weekend.
That is why you will see a growing num-
ber of outside tournaments primarily on
the weekends, which brings in revenue to
our courses that would otherwise sit idle.
They are making a major contribution to
offsetting our expenses and keeping the
cost of golf down for the residents. You
can easily identify outside tournaments
by the blue-green shading, while inside
tournaments have a blue shading. All
MGA and WGA events have a yellow
shading.
Dare we mention the dreaded aerifica-
tion that has to happen to keep our fair-
ways and greens in good shape? Yes, we
will mention it and advise you that it,
too, appears on the calendar so it should
come as no surprise to you when it takes
place.
The bottom line is that almost anything
that will be happening on our golf cours-
es is recorded on the Golf Calendar. Use
it to your advantage to plan your golf
outings.
The arrival of May brings the
WGA 18 Hole Group their second
tournament of the 2013 season.
The President’s Cup Tournament
will be played on May 6 and 7.
The other games being played this
month are Criers, Ace Qualifier
and a Mystery Game.
A special thanks goes out to all
the WGA ladies who volunteered
their baking prowess and time to
help at the MGAMember/Member
Tournament back in March.
The Sun City Texas 18 Hole Wom-
en’s Golf Association has playdays
on Tuesday mornings. We welcome
all Sun City women golfers to join
our organization. Please contact
Kathy Russell at 512-864-9936 if
you are interested or need more
information.

Attendance is great at our 2013 tourna-
ments; the Spring BFS Member /Mem-
ber tournament was a sellout and our
Pulte/Sun City Member/Guest tourna-
ment in April was sold out before the
end of March.
Our largest tournament, the Don
Hewlett President’s Cup on May 15 and
16, could also be a sellout with a 272
player limit. The chances of this event
being sold out get greater every day, so
sign up soon if you want to play in this
exceptional event.
All of our tournaments benefit from the
support of our sponsors. These busi-
nesses help us keep our entry fee lower,
provide better meals, more payouts, and
better tee gifts. Please make certain
whenever possible to thank and support
our generous sponsors.
Next month we will have a Red Ball
mini-tournament on June 12 in conjunc-
tion with our quarterly meeting. Sign
up should be available soon. Remember,
you must sign up individually for both
events; the Red Ball Tournament as well
as the quarterly meeting.
