DID YOU KNOW?
Trail Markers Help Provide Emergency Assistance
Trail users will notice a series of limestone markers positioned along the trails. Each marker has a number encircled by the Sun City logo and its exact location is on file with the City of Georgetown. In the event of an emergency on a nature trail, call 911 and report the number of the nearest trail marker, this will give Georgetown’s first responders your exact location. Each marker is clearly indicated on the trail maps.
Flu Vaccine Clinic

Monday, Sept. 30
9 a.m. - 2 p.m. • SCB

Influenza (flu) is a potentially serious disease so each year the Emergency Management Committee (EMC) hosts a flu shot clinic. Flu vaccinations have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illnesses and hospitalization. To save time, pick up a vaccine consent form ahead of time at any monitors desk.

Insurance & Payment
Medicare and other insurances may pay for the flu vaccine and all insurance forms will be submitted by Walgreens. Bring your Medicare or insurance card to the clinic. If you have a New Medicare Card and a Medicare Advantage Plan Card, bring them both.

Vaccines Available
Walgreens will provide standard and high-dose flu vaccines. The 'Standard' Flu Vaccine this year is the 'Quadrivalent' Flu Vaccine Shot for people under 65. People over 65 receive the High Dose Flu Vaccine Shot that is recommended by the CDC.
National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO), an annual event to support safe neighborhoods, is on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Georgetown. Block parties are being organized from 6 to 9 p.m.

Last year there were more than 100 registered National Night Out events in Georgetown. Georgetown Police Department officers as well as other local law enforcement officers, elected officials, Georgetown firefighters and EMS technicians and other City employees attended block parties throughout the city.

Host Party
The Georgetown Police Department is hosting a reception for hosts of NNO block parties on Wednesday, Sept. 25, between 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Operations and Training Center, 3500 D.B Wood Road.

Click Here to find out more and to register your NNO party.
Send Us Your Nonprofit Events
Does your favorite nonprofit have an upcoming fundraiser or is it in need of donations or volunteers? Send a paragraph of 75 words or less to [email protected] describing your nonprofit’s event or needs. Submissions may be considered for publication in the November Sun Rays. Deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Thanksgiving Immigrant Stories
Dating back almost 400 years, the tradition of Thanksgiving began with a small group of recently-arrived immigrants who had risked everything to voyage to a far-away land in hopes of a better life. The journey was difficult, dangerous and filled with unknowns, but thanks to the kindness of the local Wampanoag tribe, these pilgrims endured and celebrated by breaking bread with their neighbors in this new place they now called home.

In honor of this cherished holiday, Sun Rays is asking for your immigrant story. Are you an immigrant to the U.S.? When did you arrive? How and why did you leave to come to America? What challenges did you face and who helped you? What are you most thankful for about life in your new country?

Please send your story to Jaime Calder, [email protected], no later than Friday, Oct. 4, for inclusion in the November issue of Sun Rays. We kindly ask that submissions be limited to 350 words or less. Photographs are highly encouraged. If you need help in arranging a photograph or handling old pictures, please contact Jaime Calder at 512-948-7745.
