Our Club Caller: Gary Bible

Gary and his wife Linda started square dance lessons in 1978 with the River City Squares called by Pat Castro. One night, during a tip, he was singing along, and he must have sung too loud. Pat asked him if he would like to try to call sometime. That sparked a flame inside him! So, he took the record 'El Paso' home, practiced it and performed it the next week. He confessed, "Man...I was horrible! I never thought I could be so nervous and so bad!" But the motivation was there, so he decided to learn to call. In 1981 he loaded up the kids and Linda and attended a callers school in Pensacola, Florida. The next year it was a callers school at Hot Springs, Arkansas. The next year it was Estes Park, Colorado, and the 4th year he attended a callers school in Dillard, Georgia. By then he halfway knew what he was doing and was on his way.
 
In 42 years of calling, this part-time job helped Linda and Gary put their son Scott and daughter Leslie through college! He also wore out 3 vans and is now working on the 4th! Best of all, he has made countless square dance friends and has had tons of fun!
 
In 2019 and 2020, after a brief "sabbatical" away from square dancing, Gary discovered he missed the people and the music, duh! He had thought he was burnt out….NOT! So, he decided to pick up the microphone again.
 
After a year of doing fill-in slots for local callers, in 2021 he joined Chet Miles as the Co-Club Caller of the Wheel-N-Deals club in San Marcos. So far so good!
 
In August 2023 Gary become the Club Caller for the Sun City Sundancers.
 
Gary's goals as a Club Caller are:  To present fun and "slightly challenging" dances with new and challenging choreography. To present updated and new square dance singing calls and hoedowns. To get to know the Sundance club members.
 
Gary thanks all of you square dancers who have supported him through the years. He and Linda have had lots of dancing fun together. The most enjoyment he has had is having between-tips conversations in getting to know what you do, what you like, and discovering the important things and issues in your lives. Gary has called to dancers in all 'stations' of life and has discovered everyone has something unique and special about their lives!
