Volunteers Needed for EMC Emergency Drill Tuesday, Mar. 13
NEEDED: Volunteer "evacuees" and "victims" The Sun City Emergency Management Committee (EMC) conducts a community emergency preparedness drill each year to familiarize residents in the evacuation process and improve the skills of our trained volunteers and staff in case of an actual emergency event. To make the exercise as realistic as possible, residents are needed to play the role of evacuees and victims.
Plan to arrive at one of the Evacuation Centers between 9:00 – 10:30 am. This will only take an hour or less of your time.
- Social Center Ballroom – for evacuees needing shelter
- Activity Center – First Aid for victims with simulated injuries (or, upon arrival a volunteer can help simulate an injury by giving you a card with a description of ‘your injuries’ for the treatment team)
- Cowan Creek Amenity Center – for evacuees needing shelter plus a First Aid Center for victims with simulated injuries (see AC First Aid above)
- Pet Centers – Social Center Ballroom and Cowan Creek - for residents with a pet and seeking shelter

Update on the New Amenity Center: The Retreat
|
Construction on the new amenity center off Cattleman Drive is underway and we’re on schedule to open the facility in late fall. The new Amenity Center will be called The Retreat and will include a fitness center, visual arts room and a multi-purpose room which will seat up to 300. The multi-purpose room can be sectioned off into smaller rooms and includes a stage, a space for set-building and storage for AcTAG and a catering kitchen. Other amenities in this area include pickleball courts, a pond for irrigation, overflow parking for bus outings and hiking trails.
|
|
Friendly Reminders: Fishing & Restrooms 1. When fishing at the Cowan Creek Fishing Pond, please remember you cannot fish on the side by the tee boxes on hole #9 at Cowan. There is signage that reflects the area that is off limits for fishing for safety reasons (you don’t want to be hit by a golf ball coming off a tee box).
2. Whenever you are out and about in the community and nature calls, please use a restroom to relieve yourself. Our native areas are not your restroom and your neighbors do not want to see you like this. I am sorry I even have to ask this one!

New Service for Veterans in Sun City Veteran Burial Benefits
|
|
Every Wednesday in Sun City Veterans can meet with a Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery (CTSVC) volunteer in Sun City to learn more about the veterans burial benefits preregistration process every Wednesday from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Social Center Lobby just before you enter the Ballroom.
The CTSVC in Killeen, TX, accepts preregistration forms for burial benefits earned by veterans while serving their country. There is no charge for burial of eligible veterans, spouses, and qualified dependents. Burial benefit includes the grave plot, the opening and closing of the grave, a concrete grave liner for casketed burials, a headstone or marker, and perpetual care of the grave. Interment options include casketed burials, interment of cremated remains in a columbarium or in-ground burial section, and a scattering garden for cremated remains.

Say "NO" to Golf Carts & Grandkids
|
Many grandchildren will be in our community for the spring break holiday, and there will be a temptation to allow them to drive a golf cart. It is against the law and extremely dangerous for anyone under the age of 16 and/or anyone without a driver’s license to drive a golf cart. Please, DO NOT let grandkids get behind the wheel. Georgetown police officers may issue you a ticket.
