Firewise Town Hall:
Is Your Home Safe?

Tuesday, Oct 3
9:30 a.m. • Ballroom

In the event of a wildfire or a house fire, burning embers can fall on homes and ignite leaves and other debris resulting in additional loss. Your Sun City Texas Firewise program has been working for more than nine years to keep your community safe and educated about the steps you can take to protect your home from such a disaster. We’re among the 1,400 recognized Firewise communities in the nation and we work with leading experts including Firewise USA, the Texas A&M Forestry Service, Georgetown Fire Department, Williamson County Emergency Management and others. Join us to learn about recent updates you can use to keep your home Firewise.

Guest speakers include:

  • Rob Galbraith, Director of Property Underwriting at USAA, will discuss USAA’s reduction in the fire coverage premium.
  • Kari Hines, Wildland Urban Interface Specialist with Texas A&M Forest Service, will discuss how a community qualifies as Firewise.
  • Georgetown Fire Department will offer an update on their programs and activities and may have equipment on display.
  • Dan Dodson, Education Coordinator for the Sun City Firewise Group, will discuss recent updates in how residents can work to make their homes Firewise.

Water and Sewer Line Repairs on Your Private Property

Submitted by Georgetown Utility Systems

Georgetown Utility Systems does not endorse specific offers by companies to cover water and sewer line repairs on private property. In the coming months, residents may receive offers from independent companies providing maintenance policies that assist homeowners with normal wear and tear of their lines, similar to an extended warranty on a vehicle. The City of Georgetown does not partner with any of these companies and strongly recommends that citizens evaluate these policies carefully to ensure they provide benefits for their specific situations.

DID YOU KNOW? The City assumes responsibility for repairs to water and sewer service lines between the homeowner’s property line to the point of connection into the city systems. The service lines that lie on the homeowner’s property are the responsibility of the homeowner.
