Deer Census: Volunteer
Sign-up Ends Sept. 11

Submitted by the Wildlife Management Committee

Volunteer sign up period: Sept. 6-11
Census date: Sept. 18-20
Alt. (rain) date: Sept. 21-22

Volunteers can sign up for the 2017 Deer Census online or at the Social Center Monitors' Desk through September 11. The Census takes place September 18-20 and we need 70-80 volunteer to help us count deer in Sun City Texas. The census process involves teams of two individuals to either walk trails or drive golf carts along street routes or on golf course cart paths to obtain an accurate count of all deer sighted across three consecutive days. Couples may work together in teams as long as both sign up separately and note that they are a couple on the sign-up form. The count begins at approximately 7:15 pm and requires about 1 to 1 1/2 hours for each team to complete its route.

The Wildlife Management Committee has utilized the deer census information for 12 years to satisfy requirements of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and to advise the CA Board on deer management strategies. If you have questions about the deer management program in Sun City Texas, please attend one of our monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 3 pm in the Activities Center, Meeting Rooms 1-2.

New Pedestrian Pathway Connecting N-59 to SC Blvd.

Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

In late 2015 the Developer built and turned over to the CA the golf cart pathway that connects N-59 to Sun City Blvd. Since that time we have allowed pedestrians and golf carts to share this pathway and have installed speed bumps in an attempt to keep this area safe for all users. At the recommendation of outside consultants and to re-align with our regular practice of not mixing pedestrians with golf carts, the CA has installed a pedestrian walking trail adjacent to the concrete golf cart path.

Effective immediately, pedestrians are required to use the new mulched trail and stay off of the concrete golf cart path.

Over the next few weeks we will be installing new signage and rules along  the trail and at the entries. Cyclists who use this shortcut must walk their bikes on the new pedestrian trail and are not permitted to use the concrete golf cart path. Motorcycles and cars are still prohibited from using these trails. Thank you all in advance for your support and cooperation in keeping this area safe for all users.

Golf Operations
Improvement Proposal

Submitted by Gary Wilson, Director of Golf, 512-948-7705 or [email protected]

After reviewing the recommendations of the Golf Operations Audit by Up to Par Management, the Golf Department has put together a proposal for operational improvements to the golf amenity in Sun City Texas. This proposal was put together based on substantial input from Up to Par, senior CA Staff and the full Board of Directors of Sun City Texas.

Golf's objective is to become and remain a profitable amenity as we move toward transition. Our profitability will provide the needed capital to purchase equipment coming off lease and provide the funds necessary for future projects in conjunction with reserve funds.

In summary we have four major areas of focus:

  • Marketing
  • Equipment Leases and Purchases
  • Staffing Levels
  • Levels of appearance

Please click the link below to read the full proposal. If you would like to submit feedback, please email [email protected]
