Time to Change Your Clocks & Smoke Alarm Batteries!

imgTime to change your clocks - and smoke alarm batteries! Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 6, allowing us an extra hour of sleep―and a great reminder to change the batteries in our smoke alarms, or replace the alarm unit entirely. Batteries should be changed at least once per year, while the smoke alarm unit should be replaced every 8-10 years.

imgFriendly Reminders: Cats

Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

As a follow-up to a previous Friendly Reminder dealing with pets, please note that cats are not allowed to roam freely in the community. As we all know, cats love to use flower beds as their restrooms, and no one likes to find their deposits when working in their landscape beds. Also, cats are much liked by coyotes, which have been seen in our area lately, so keep Fluffy safe and indoors.

Disposing of Prescription Drugs

imgOn October 22, the National Prescription Drug take-back event in Sun City collected 974 pounds of unused or expired medications contributing to the overall total of 4,861 pounds collected across all 24 sites in central Texas.

Additionally, you can now dispose of your prescription drugs year-round using the collection kiosk in the lobby of the Public Safety Operations and Training Complex located at 3500 DB Woods. The kiosk is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for the Medsafe kiosk (pictured here).

Thank you for your help in properly disposing of drugs that are potentially dangerous to ourselves, our families and our waterways.

Water Matters

Submitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent, 512-948-7792, [email protected]

Well it wasn’t the typically wet October we usually get, and it was a bit on the warmer side. Rain and even cooler temperatures are in the forecast however. With the exception of the new sod and plant areas, which I will be running a one day per week program, I will begin turning off the irrigation to the common areas.

Remember that overwatering the landscape this time of year is an invitation for molds and fungus to take hold and damage valuable plant material and turf.
This weekend is the time change. Don’t forget to adjust your clocks, including the irrigation controller, or be prepared for the imminent social awkwardness.

For assistance with your landscape irrigation system, email the Water Matters Team at [email protected].
