RAIN GUTTERS
The Design Guidelines do not address restrictions and requirements
for adding gutters to a home. Installing gutters will require an
application to the Modifications Committee. The application should
show where (sides of the home) the new gutters will be added,
the location of downspouts, whether or not the downspouts will
be buried, the color of the gutters and the trim color of the home.
REPLACING MULCH AND PLANTS
October brings cooler temperatures and falling leaves. This is the
time to take a good look at your yard. Prune bushes and replace
any plants that didn’t make it through the heat of the summer.
Remember, you can place a new border around your existing beds,
add mulch, replace rock with mulch and replace declining plants
with similar plants without any paperwork.
The Garden Club has created binders with plant names and
pictures kept at both the Cowan Creek and Texas Drive monitor’s
stations. These books show a great selection of drought tolerant
plants that do well in Georgetown.
TRIMMING TREES
Trees can be trimmed without submitting paperwork. Any branches
that overhang your property can be trimmed. In a sight triangle,
branches hanging lower than eight feet from the ground must be
trimmed. A sight triangle is an area that extends 25 feet from the
corner down each side bounded by a line that closes that triangle.
Within that area, there should be no bushes higher than three
feet or trees hanging below eight feet that would obstruct the line
of sight for a vehicle rounding the corner.
HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS
Finally, we can start putting out Halloween decorations on October
24. Carving those pumpkins can be lots of fun!
NOT SO WELCOME OCTOBER 2017 SUNRAYS | 13
A baby rattlesnake lies coiled behind this welcome sign
on a Sun City Texas front porch. Rattlers are born in late
summer and early fall, with sightings increasing in October.
As temperatures begin to cool, snakes become less nocturnal,
making them more likely to be found in the daytime.
Sun City’s volunteer snake wranglers can assist with snake
identification, removal or relocation. Their contact information
is listed on page 5 of the Sun Rays.
