The Poker Club held a Texas

There is much to explore in Keith and
Rebecca Caldwell’s yard. Beside the
driveway, a golden leadball tree, a huge
Pride of Barbados and an impressive
esparanza put on a red-orange and
yellow display all summer. Across the
drive, silver ponyfoot and wooly ste-
modia groundcover provide contrast
to the dark leaves and red flowers of
Black Diamond crepe myrtle. Nestled
beside the front patio wall, a tender
but exotic Angel’s Trumpet produces
beautiful lavender bell-shaped blooms.
And just behind the garage a Choco-
late Mimosa tree spreads its maroon
leaves to lightly shade a vegetable gar-
den. Here, Rebecca uses raised beds
around a crushed granite path to grow
tomatoes and a few vegetables. The
Caldwell back yard, a certified native
wildlife habitat, provides food, water
and shelter for bees, birds, butterflies
and small creatures. Butterflies visit fa-
vorites such as Gregg’s mistflower and
Mexican butterfly weed. Birds breeze
between the backyard and adjacent
