It’s April – time to treat for fire ants CA NEWS

The CA normally performs ant bait treatment during the
month of April. Signage will be posted in high traffic areas
as a reminder that it is time for residents to treat their yards.
Treating for ants works best if we all treat at the same time.

DIY tips for successful application:

 – Do not schedule any irrigation for 48 hours, and wait until
all dew has dried from turf area.

 – Do not apply if there is a chance of rain in the two day
   forecast.

 – Do not apply if temperatures are below 60 degrees.

 – Use small amounts of bait and broadcast with a small
hand spreader. If applying by hand, be sure to wear plastic
   gloves and follow label directions.

 – Check with your lawn care company to see if ant control
is included in your contract before purchasing a product.

 – Remember, if you see ant mounds during the year and
you wonder if the product is working―ant bait is a means
   of control, not eradication.

EASTER DECORATIONS

Easter arrives on April 16 this year. Appropriate decorations
are allowed from April 9 through April 23.
EXTERIOR PAINTING

Spring is a good time of year for touch-ups and repainting. If you
are merely repainting the same color, no paperwork is required.
If unsure of the name of the paint, have your painter match
what is on the home (best to match an area where the sun hasn’t
lightened the color), and all will be well. Check last month’s Sun
Rays for a more detailed explanation of exterior paint guidelines.
RAIN BARRELS AND COMPOST BINS

Our Design Guidelines now allow residents to have two rain
collection barrels instead of one (page 65) and to have one compost
bin in the back yard (page 67). The guidelines are fairly restrictive
in regard to what is allowed, so be sure to review them before
filling out your application to get approval for your project.
COMMON AREAS

Please note that the common areas, although commonly owned
by us all, are off limits to everyone but designated CA employees.
Planting trees, placing furniture or even nailing up birdhouses
violates our community’s covenants.
MAILBOXES AND GAS LINES

Finally, due to the outstanding efforts of our Residential
Maintenance Inspectors and our responsible residents, most of
the mailboxes and gas lines in our community have been painted.
For tips on how to maintain both, log on to sctexas.org and go to
Departments & Hours > Community Standards > Frequently
Asked Questions and look under General Questions.
