FITNESS
Athlete of the Month By Claudia Verde and Emily Teague
Training is the name, but travel is her game. It was Emily Emily Teague
Teague’s love of travel that brought her to the gym in June
last year. The travel bug bit Emily over 30 years ago when Personal Trainer: Claudia Verde

Hungary, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
But, along the way, Emily noticed her knee was intruding more
frequently on her ability to fully enjoy her travels. Many of these
trips included climbing stairs or navigating the cobblestone streets
of European cities, making discomfort more common. Her doctor
advised her that she might inevitably be facing a knee replacement,
but he left that timeline to her discretion.
At this point, Emily knew she needed to get in better shape,
increase her leg strength and overall fitness. It was then, in
June of 2016, that she enlisted the help of Claudia Verde, a bio-
mechanic specialist, to instruct her on the correct way to exercise
and strengthen muscles. Not being an exercise enthusiast, Emily
had a bad habit of performing exercises as fast as she could just
“to get it over with,” and she knew she needed someone to hold
her accountable. Claudia, being a travel enthusiast herself, was
quick to understand Emily’s passion and drive to be “fit to travel!”
Bringing discipline to the table, Claudia helped Emily form new
habits to reach her goals.
After working together for a couple of months, along with
celebrating her 70-year milestone with a birthday trip to France,
Emily decided to have her knee replacement in August of 2016.
Her doctor and physical therapist both marveled at how quickly
she recuperated and bounced back from her surgery. All credit her
diligence to training and strengthening her legs prior to surgery
