The two friends presented their collabora-
tive concept to the hotel’s artist representa-
tive Amanda Still, who commissioned Sue
and Carol to create one of the Sheraton’s
centerpiece artworks.
Thrilled at this new and incredible op-
portunity, the two women picked up their
brushes and readied for work. Having pre-
viously painted together simply for the joy
of it, Sue and Carol would now need to
work within the constraints of a contracted
art piece. The artists were given specific
directions as to size and who would paint
what part. Carol was assigned a 3 foot by
5 foot canvas, while Sue was instructed to
work on a canvas measuring 3-by-9. The
two canvases would be put together to form
one mural. Though their subjects were as-
signed, both ladies were allowed to work in
their usual styles: Carol would paint sheep
as inspired by her previous painting, while
Sue would create an abstract landscape to
connect with Carol’s sheep.
After submitting their preliminary sketch-
es and color selections, Sheraton’s interior

love for creativity.
