CA NEWS
2002 For 20 years, the patriotic spirit
of Sun City Texas has shone
2008 brightly each July. The first
Independence Day event held in
Sun City Texas took place on July
3, 1996, when Del Webb hosted an
early evening barbecue at the Legacy
Park Pavilion. Residents brought a
variety of desserts to share, and a
strolling barbershop quartet made
sure everyone got in on the fun!
The first Golf Cart Parade was held
in 1997, with prizes being awarded
for Most Patriotic, Most Creative
and Best Comedy Cart. The Pooch
Parade made its debut in 2001.
Sponsor Castlerock Pet Hospital
provided winning pups with prizes
in categories such as Most Obedient,
Best Costume and Best Tail Wagging.
As more groups and individuals
began hosting their own celebrations,
parade attendance declined and the
July 3 parade was discontinued in
2015. However, one annual Sun City
tradition is still going strong. The
Sun City Singers Independence Day
concert will be held on Friday, July 1
at 11 a.m. A new tradition, Sun City
Salutes America, produced by Sun
City Live, takes place on Saturday,
July 2 at 6 p.m. Both events take
place in the ballroom.
However you plan to celebrate
Independence Day, bring your
legendary Sun City patiotic pride
with you!
