The 127 mile drive from Anchorage to
Seward on the east coast of the Kenai
Peninsula was simply breathtaking,
traversing the National Forest Scenic
Byway, All-American Road and Alaska
Scenic Byway. It follows the north shore
of the Turnagin Arm through Chugah
State Park and National Forest.
We stopped at Moose Pass for a yum-
my breakfast. A large waterwheel with
salmon swimming up beside it boasted a
sign reading: “Moose Pass is a peaceful
little town, if you have an axe to grind,
do it here.” As we got closer to Seward
we were able to see several glaciers. A
picturesque community nestled between
high mountain ranges, it is known for
the Iditarod Sled Dog Race that runs
each March between Anchorage and
Nome.
At 6:45 p.m., we experienced our first
earthquake in an RV and it was a real
shaker. We later found out it registered
at 6.2, one of the largest recorded since
the great one of 1964.
AUGUST 1
HOMER, AK
Everyone did their own thing today.
Dave and Cathy met friends for lunch
at Captain Patties Fish House and dined
on fish cheeks. Darby, Debbie, Jerry and
Barbara went sightseeing around town.
We all met for happy hour at The Salty
Dawg, where we signed a dollar bill
and hung it on the wall. The brave ones
peered over the back fence and watched
the day’s catch being cleaned.

giant wooden salmon at the Pioneer
