have heard bocce described as “lawn
bowling.” But are they the same game?
The answer is no, but there are definite
similarities: In both games, balls are
rolled in an attempt to get them closer
to the target ball than the balls of the
opposing team. However, it is the balls
themselves that set the games apart.
Bocce balls are spherical and roll as
straight as the talent of the roller. In
lawn bowling, the balls, or bowls, are
not perfectly spherical and will not roll
straight. One side is slightly flattened,
and thus the path of the bowl is a sweep-
ing arc. The player causes the bowl to arc

western dancing in the Ballroom. Dances
have recorded music or a live band. Ice
and water are provided. Please bring your

promoting golf among Sun City Texas
couples who enjoy casual, competitive
golf in a friendly and welcoming envi-
ronment. Playdays are every third Sat-
urday, rotating around the three Sun
City Texas courses. We have three social

In our five-room studio, members cre-
ate objects for both practical use and
visual beauty. Equipment, tools, glazes,
brushes and clay are sold to members at
cost and dues are $12 a year.
Members’ creations are displayed in the
windows of the club as well as on its
website above.
Come visit our studio behind the Fabric
& Fiber Club and learn about ceram-
ics, hand building, wheel throwing, and
china painting. Monitors will guide you
on a short tour and tell you about up-
coming classes.
Ceramics: Existing forms, such as
plates, bowls, vases, animals, xmas trees
and Santa Clauses can be painted and
glazed to your own design.

When completed, objects are fired in one
of five resident kilns that are operated
by experienced members. Beginners’
Wheel Throwing: Six potter’s wheels

kiln are designated for painted china
