When Tom Jean was consider-
ing moving to Sun City Texas
six years ago, it was the com- scheduling of Sun City’s 12 courts and

strong tennis club that ultimately made
him decide he wanted to live in Sun City.
Now a member of the Sun City Texas
Tennis Association, the tennis club’s
formal name, Jean is a regular on the
courts and enjoys the camaraderie of
other players.
The tennis association maintains a mem-
bership of about 300. The association is
responsible for the administration and

“In Open Tennis, you get to play with
people you don’t normally get to play
with,” said Robert Willingham, president
of the community’s tennis association.
Open Tennis is Monday and Wednesday
evenings and Friday mornings.
The association has players at every lev-
el. “We try to accommodate every level
player who belongs to the association,”
said Sandy Goodman, secretary of the
association. In 2009, Goodman played
women’s doubles in the USTA national
finals. Caroline Willingham, Robert
Willingham’s wife, has played in USTA
national tournaments five times.
Membership in the association is $12 an-
nually, with the dues helping offset some
of the costs of the group’s social activities.
For those joining after July 1 who are
first-time members, membership is $6
for the remainder of the year. For further
