E
very year, the Rally for the Cure
Golf Tournament proves to be one
of the most popular charitable
golfing events in Sun City Texas. Last
year, Sun City Texas raised $18,145 for
a seven-year total of $97,445. From its
inception in 2007, over 2,265 golfers
have participated and contributed time
and money to our Rally effort. Many
volunteers participate by collecting dona-
tions, collecting gifts to raffle, assembling
goody bags, working the tables at check-
in, serving food and drinks, baking and
selling cookies on the courses, selling
raffle tickets and assisting with the silent
auctions and ballroom decorating. If you
are willing to volunteer, please contact
Barbara Berry at baberry@suddenlink.

This year’s golf tournament will be held
on Friday, October 3 at all three Sun
City Golf Courses – Legacy Hills, White
Wing and Cowan Creek. There will be a
9 a.m. Shotgun Start and a Step-Aside
Scramble format. The format accommo-
dates golfers of all skill levels. Beginning
golfers can come join the fun. This golf
tournament is unique – it is
not
about
competition - it
is
about friends play-
ing golf and raising charity dollars for
the CURE. Just make sure your group
keeps up the pace of play and finishes
in the allotted four hours.
The combined Sun City Golf Leagues
(MGA and WGA), along with our Golf
Staff, have committed their support.
Please join us for this most worthy chari-
table golf event.
Prior to the tournament, the 18-Hole
WGA collects money on a WGA Tues-
day Playday from Mulligan sales and
the 9-Hole WGA collects donations from
their Ring on a String Event.
Home made cookies baked by our WGA
ladies are sold on the courses. Over seven
years, $4,035 has been collected from these
cookie sales. SunCity golfers LOVE cookies!
The Cotton Patch Café joined us last year
as a sponsor and provides hamburgers,
and the MGA provides drinks for the
lunch celebration that follows play. The
best part of this event is the spirit of love
and support that emerges in the ballroom
during the wrap-up of the Rally. Every
year, we ask that our cancer survivors
stand and receive a well-earned ovation.
Sadly, our Welcome Desk will be missing
our own Susie Pearce, who lost her long,
heroic battle with cancer this year.
Together, Sun City golfers have made a
difference and will continue with this
great cause as long as it is still popular
with our residents.

It is recommended that this project be
funded in the 2015 operating budget.
The Sun City Golf Staff and Golf Com-
mittee jointly have approved these rec-
ommendations. Implementation will oc-
cur through the remainder of 2014 and
into 2015 based on funding and priorities
set by the staff and Golf Committee.
Thanks goes to the members of the
Playability/Safety Sub-committee and
the Sun City Golf Staff for their ongo-
ing time and effort to maintain ongoing
focus on our golf facilities.
