“Thanks to the Troops” returns
Submitted by Anne Henry
Thursday, June 26
Thanks to the Troops is coming again
to Sun City Texas on June 26. Thanks
to our residents, this event has been
such a success these past few years,
with $100,000 raised for the USO at Fort Hood.
For those of you who are new to Sun City Texas, we bring 108
soldiers here from Fort Hood to play with 38 of our veterans
in an amateur Vet-Am Golf Tournament. The purpose of the
day is to give these young warriors a change of scenery and to
let them know how much we appreciate their protection of our
wonderful nation. They will arrive at the Highway 195 entrance
to Sun City Texas at approximately 11 a.m. and will go toWhite
Wing Golf Course where they will tee off at 1 p.m.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
Join fellow Sun City Texas residents in waving to the soldiers
as they make their way from Hwy. 195 to the golf course, then
come to White Wing to shake hands with these fine young men
and women, or line up on any of the tee boxes for a chance to
interact with them while they wait to tee off.
Many neighborhoods set up stands at the various tee boxes and
serve cold drinks, cookies, candy, etc. Come join them! Everyone
is invited. Who knows, you might even run into an old friend,
as one woman did last year—she met a young soldier from her
small hometown, only to discover that she used to babysit him
when he was just 3 years old!
Sponsoring a Soldier
Sponsoring is available for a soldier at $75, a hole at $200 or
a team of three soldiers and a veteran for $225. For those vet-
erans who sponsor and indicate they would like to participate,
a drawing will take place on June 1 to pick 36 veterans who
will play with the troops. Applications are available at all golf
courses, and at the reception area at the Activities Center on
Texas Drive.
After their golf outing, the group will go to the Legacy Hills
Park Pavilion where we will have dinner for the soldiers, award
the tournament winners, and have drawings and special prizes
for these amazing young people to remember their time here
in Sun City Texas.
We want to make this day very special, and your support will
make this a day all of us will be proud to remember.

you have the chance or oppor-
tunity, thank them, shake their
hand, give them a pat on the back for the job they have done
because they have earned it. That is the greatest reward any
service member can receive. A simple “Thank You.”
