sOLIcItINg scam
A driver was called by a homeowner who
expressed concern about a company that
was placing cards on front doors. This
concern was turned over to the CA, who,
upon investigation, found that it was prob-
ably a scam, eliciting personal informa-
tion fromresidents.

the Georgetown Police Department’s non-
emrgency phone number (512-930-3510).

A driver came up to a car that was stopped
in the left-turn lane, its four-way blinkers
going, and no one in the car. The driver
parked behind the vehicle and directed traf-
fic around it. Shortly afterward, a tow truck
arrived with the car’s owner. The COPs car
stayed in positionuntil the carwas removed.

A COPs car drove up behind a resident
who then made an illegal left turn; the
driver immediately drove onto the shoulder
and opened her window. The COPs driver,
thinking she was having trouble, pulled
in behind her and walked to her car. She
explained
that she
was wait-
ing for him to
give her a ticket. The
COPs driver explained, “We don’t
do that, we just patrol, watch and report,
but we don’t report traffic violations unless
there’s an accident.”

A driver was called and told that cows were
loose on Stetson Drive. This area abuts a
working ranch and, since cows know grass
is always greener on the other side of the
fence, over they came. The driver observed,
not cows, but about six 2,000-pound long-
hornswandering around, some even getting
amorous in one resident’s yard. Where do
longhorns go when they break through the
fence? Anyplace they like! A call to the non-
emergency police number quickly got things
under control.

A resident was observed chasing a coral
snake through the grass. Luckily, he didn’t
find it―even luckier, the snake didn’t find
him! In cases like this, the driver advised
the resident to leave catching snakes to
the snake wranglers.
(See page 4 for snake
handler contact information.)

Apersonwhose pick-up truckwith its tail-
gate down was observed selling canned
goods from the back of his truck. Another
opportunity to call the non-emergency
police number. The fact that this was
observed shortly after The Caring Place
had been broken into and robbed was not
a coincidence.
‘It’s a PLEasUrE’
One driver said, “Nothing unusual has
happened to me, but it’s just a pleasure
to ride around and look at the beautiful
landscape and flowers.” For most of the
drivers, that’s more than enough.
