about me
I am a native Texan, born and raised in
Texas City, Texas, near Galveston. After
high school, Imoved toHouston and began
working at the University of Houston in
the College of Education―that’s where I
met my husband of 40 years, Larry, as he
was studying to be a teacher. For the next
five years he taught, while I performed
administrative services in engineering
offices and for various attorneys. A career
change took us to California, where I was
employed in education offices for the next
15-plus years.
Of our four sons, one lives in College Sta-
tion and three reside in California. Our
family keeps growing, with our ninth
grandchild born last December. We have
seven granddaughters and two grand-
sons whose ages range from 10 months
to 17 years. Two granddaughters and
two grandsons live in California, while
our other five granddaughters are here in
Texas. It’s hard to keep up with all their
activities, but we have fun trying!
We discovered SunCity throughmy sister
and brother-in-law, who moved here in
2004. We visited themoften, enjoying the
community and its beautiful amenities.
In 2007, we purchased one of the model
homes. My sister is a long-time member
of the Tennis Club and got me back on
the court a year after establishing our
residency here. Now, I play 3-4 times a
week on a couple of teams. We are also
members of Zoomers and the Country
Western Dance Club.
how long have you been with
the Ca?
I began working at the Texas Drive Fit-
ness Center in August 2010. I now work
one evening a week at Cowan Creek, and
two at Texas Drive.
What does your job entail?
The duties of the Fitness Center Desk
Monitors are quite diverse and vary from
day to day. Our number one goal at the
Fitness Center is customer satisfaction.
I like to welcome everyone with a smile as
they enter the Fitness Center and answer
any questions theymay have. The Fitness
Centers offermany services that assist our
residents in living healthy, active lifestyles.
Residents can participate in personal
training sessions, aerobic classes (land
and aqua), dance classes, etc., or in our
weight management programs. At Cowan
Creek, residents can also take advantage
of the massage services. As a monitor, I
often encourage and assist residents with
finding the right class or program that
suits their individual needs.
In addition to greeting residents, I assist
with their purchases, classes, training ses-
sions, etc., and any other needs they may
have. Because I usually work the closing
shift, I amalso responsible for processing
the end-of-day report and securing the
centers for the evening.
Challenges about your job?
The biggest challenge has been helping
residents deal with recent changes―new
computers, new systems, etc. As our com-
munity continues to grow and face new
obstacles and challenges, I have discovered
much fulfillment in each opportunity I’ve
been given to aid our residents in adapt-
ing their lifestyles to these necessary
technological changes. Helping others
to overcome new challenges enables our
residents to enjoy more of each day here
in our beautiful community.
Favorite part of your job?
