ing for years, like Billie Edwards, a cer-
tified McGown instructor, who often
teaches and mentors other members on
design and technique. Other members
made rugs as children, but did very little
in adulthood. For those who have never
rug hooked or have not done it in a long
time, Billie makes sure they always start
out with a small rose design. That way,
eachmember starts from the same place,
and, when newer members join, every-
one is available if there is a problem or
a question.
For these women, this craft is a comfort-
ing form of creation, done in the compa-
ny of friends. It is as much of a group of
artists as it is a group of girlfriends who
talk about everything from hook sizes
and wools to family and life experiences.
The group meets the first, third and fifth
Tuesday of the month from 9 a.m. to
noon in the Fabric & Fiber Club Studio.
They also meet informally each week
at the home of one of the members. If
you’re new to rug hooking, not to worry!
There are teachers available. Come and
learn more about this traditional craft!
