The following special events are taking place in February and March.
VALENTINE “GALA”
The Georgetown Symphony Society will
present a “Gala” dinner-dance on Friday,
February 8 at 6 p.m. in the Sun City Ball-
room. Music will be provided by the Nash
Hernandez Orchestra, directed by Ruben
Hernandez. C.J.’s Catering will cater the
event and there will be a Valentine “bou-
tique” with items fromQuenan’s Jewelers,
Grape CreekWinery, The Escape, Sweet
Serendipity, and Garden Path. Tickets
are $65 per person with tables of eight
available. All proceeds will benefit the
Symphony Society’s concert season and
its Children’s Musical Enrichment Pro-

ART FOR ANIMALS
The 2013 Art for Animals annual fun-
draiser and auction will be held on Sat-
urday, February 9 to benefit the City
of Georgetown Animal Shelter. The
event is sponsored by the Friends of the
Georgetown Animal Shelter. Contact

6TH ANNUAL FAT TUESDAY
The San Gabriel Women’s Club is spon-
soring the sixth annual Fat Tuesday
Games Day & Luncheon on Tuesday,
February 12 at the San Gabriel Com-
munity Center. There will be a 9:30 a.m.
breakfast, and games run from 10 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m., with a break for lunch. Cost
is $20 for the full day, and $10 for lunch
only. Proceeds benefit the San Gabriel
Women’s scholarship fund and local

HILL COUNTRY AUTHOR SERIES
The Friends of the Georgetown Public
Library are pleased to welcome to the
Hill Country Authors Series Alyssa Ha-
rad, author of
Coming to My Senses: A
Story of Perfume, Pleasure and an Un-
likely Bride
.
Join us on Wednesday, February 20 at
the Georgetown Public Library at 402
W. 8th Street. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
and the lecture will begin at 2 p.m.
Barnes & Noble will be on hand to sell
copies of the book, and Ms. Harad will be
available to sign copies. Tickets can be
purchased at Second-Hand Prose in the
library or by calling Barbara Elrod at
512-931-2484. Advance tickets are $13,
or $15 at the door. Ticket price includes
a dessert and beverage from Red Poppy
Coffee Company.
ASSISTANCE LEAGUE
Assistance League Georgetown Area
presents THE “Bells, Books & Brunch”
winter fundraiser on Monday, February
25 at the Georgetown Community Center
at 445 E. Morrow St.
Doors open at 11 a.m., Brunch served at
11:30 a.m., Author presentations begin
at 1 p.m.
Brunch is being catered by Ralph Ac-
quaro of CJ’s Catering. Tickets are $20,
available from any ALGA member or
call 512-864-2542 for additional infor-
mation. $12.50 of the $20 ticket price is
tax deductible. We also will feature silent
auction items, as well as merchandise
from our Thrift Shop, and Fashion Show
presented by members of the chapter. All
proceeds realized from this event benefit
the Assistance League Philanthropic Pro-
grams and all monies are used inGeorge-
town, Jarrell and Florence.
WILCO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
The Williamson County Genealogical
Society’s annual Seminar will be held on
Saturday, March 16 at the First United
Methodist Church, 1004 North Mays,
Round Rock. Registration and vendors
start at 8 a.m. and the Seminar will be
from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guest speaker is John Philip Colletta.
His topics will be “Records of the Federal
Courts 1789-1911: Drama in Your Ances-
tors’ Lives; Using Original and Derivative
Sources: How to Evaluate Evidence; Pas-
senger Arrival Records, Colonial Times to
mid-20th Century; and How to Prepare
for Successful Research in European Re-
