USGA Proposed Rule Change

As many have seen and heard by now,
the USGA has proposed Rule 14-1b which
affects the use of the belly and long put-
ter techniques. To clarify, this is just a
proposed rule change at this time, but the
overall feeling is that it is just a formality
and will go into effect in 2016. The rules
are reviewed every 4 years and since the
most recent version was published this
year, the USGA will wait until the next
scheduled review to make the rule of-
ficial.
Another point of clarification is that the
USGA is not banning the use of belly and
long putters; simply the technique of an-
choring the putter to the body. As long as
the putter is not anchored, a putter longer
than standard length will remain legal.
