O
ne of the several sub commit-
tees formed by the Golf Com-
mittee in early 2011 was the
Golf Course Playability Sub Commit-
tee. This sub committee is charged
with identifying opportunities where
improvements, both major and minor,
can be made to our three golf courses.
These improvements can be things that
will either improve the playability or the
appearance of our courses.
The sub committee’s “meetings” are held
on the golf course, with each course be-
ing reviewed once or twice a year. Dur-
ing these reviews, a list of opportunities
for improvement is developed. In order
for something to make it onto the im-
provement list, it must be agreed to by
all members of the committee, including
the Director of Course Maintenance.
Once the list for all three courses is de-
veloped, they are submitted to the Golf
Committee for their review and approv-
al. All suggestions for improvement that
are agreed to by a majority of the Golf
Committee are then incorporated into
a final report. This report then becomes
the “punch list” for each course super-
intendent to work from. These “punch
lists” are prioritized by the Director of
Golf Course Maintenance based on his
assessment of available manpower and
other resources.
Here are some examples of the types of
projects that have been completed on
our three courses:
Removal of pampass grass on several
holes at White Wing.
Establishing “Lateral Hazards” on
several holes at White Wing and Cow-
an Creek in areas where the vegeta-
tion is so thick that golfers can not
play or even look for their ball. This
will also help improve pace of play.
Constructing a tournament score-
board at Cowan Creek—this project
was jointly funded by the Golf budget
and the Men’s Golf Association.
Placing new yardage markers on the
sprinkler heads at all three courses.
Converting many areas that were
either “bare ground” or covered with
mulch into decomposed granite beds
to improve both playability and ap-
pearance.
Major tree trimming (primarily at
Legacy Hills).
Clearing the hazard to the right and
the creek bed in front of #6 tee at
Cowan Creek.
Major clean up of the area between
the dual fairways on hole #18 at
White wing.
There are still a few items on the project
lists that are not yet completed, and we
will be addressing these items during
the winter months. Any items that we
don’t complete will be reassessed during

The Men’s Golf Association (MGA) has
concluded another enjoyable year, and
our 2012 tournaments were very suc-
cessful and well attended. A lot of our
tournament success was due to the
generous support of all of our sponsors.
When you visit our sponsors, remember
to thank them for their support. We look
forward to another great golfing year in
2013
and rely on the continued support
of our sponsors. If you’d like to help the
fundraising committee, recommend a
new sponsor to the Board or myself. We’d
love to hear about them!
The Board is already evaluating your
Golfer Survey responses and looking for
ways to improve our 2013 activities. If
you have not responded to our survey,
please do! We would like to publish the
results in the near future.
As a reminder to all MGA members, it
is time to renew your membership for
2013.
This can be done by going on to
the MGA website, visit
,
click on the Site Index and then click on
Men’s Golf Association.
The Board wishes to once again thank
the members who left the Board this
year: Charlie Russell, Arnold Regouf-
fre, and especially our President, Mike
Kondelis.
Thank you!
Walter Connolly, MGA President
