Austin’s source of Texas honky-tonk country
is stomping back into Sun City for a night of
wonderful toe-tapping music. Mike Clifford
has been nominated for two 2011 Texas Mu-
sic Awards: Album of the Year (“Backroads
In Bare Feet”) and Song Of The Year (“West Texas Sun”).
Clifford has now received four nominations to date, including
Male Vocalist of the Year in 2005 and Record of the Year in
2007.
He is one of a small handful of Texas artists who has
received nominations in four different categories since the
awards began in 2002.
Valentine’s Day Dance with Weldon Henson
Thursday, February 14th, 7–10 p.m., SCB, $15 pp
Reserved Seating by TABLES
Henson’s shows are a throw-back to the vin-
tage honky-tonk and Texas culture that com-
bine the rock ‘n roll attitude and approach
of the more modern men of Texas country.
Weldon’s hard-hitting, original country music
demands as much from the dancers, who never seem to leave
the floor. Weldon’s original and standard repertoire is one of
the most extensive on the circuit making him a Texas honky-
tonk and dancehall favorite.
Bobby Layne Orchestra
Saturday, February 16, 7-10 p.m, SCB, $15
Reserved Seating by TABLES
Bobby’s career began in high school where he
formed a seven-piece band. Later he joined
the 43rd Army Band. His popular band grew
to 11 pieces and during the mid-’70s, added
vocalist Trudy DuMay. Their music bridges
the generations from the 1930s to the present: swing, tangos,
sambas, waltzes, show tunes and a bit of rock. An entertain-
ment experience you won’t forget!
