urday of each month. These are very
enjoyable events where we track down
a hidden transmitter with directional
antennas and ham radios, which sharpen
our skills in a potential rescue situation.
The Sun City amateur radio club or
SCARS maintains the Sun City repeater
on the 70cm band at 441.625 MHz, plus
dup, pl tone 103.5. This repeater is open
for use by any licensed amateur opera-
tor. Amateur radio operators, sometimes
better known as hams, consistently give
back to the community by aiding and
supporting the authorities in emergency
situations by volunteering our commu-
nications skills.
Worried about the weather or other emer-
gencies here in Central Texas? Come and
find out what we are doing to provide
communications during these extreme
events. Or maybe you just want your
weather radio programmed—we can help
you here as well. Contact us via our web-
site or email
.
Membership is open to anyone in Sun
City who has an interest in amateur ra-
dio. You do not have to be a licensed ham
to participate in club activities! Come join
us and see what we are about.

Play:
At Cowan Creek Center – Salado
Room. All day Saturdays & Sundays;
Tuesdays and Thursdays 1 - 5 p.m. We
also play there when the room is not oth-
erwise scheduled (check the room sched-
ule on the SCTXCA website or at the CC
monitor’s desk).
You’re most welcome to come over and
play, or just watch. If no one is playing,
the tables are in the closet and are easy
to set up and take down; paddles and
balls are in the cabinets. Come over and
improve your game! Questions? Don’t be
shy; advice and information is always
available from any of our members, just
for the asking.
If you are the last ones
playing, please make sure you put
the tables and equipment away when
finished!
Our club website has lots more informa-
tion: club news, events, tournaments,
photos, table tennis lessons, how to get
instruction, and great table tennis vid-
eos you can download. Dues are $10 /
year to join the club for tournament play,
club social events, etc. Members can also
train with our robot (call Joe DeBell for
instructions). To join the club, see our
website.
Table Tennis, an Olympic sport and a
great aerobic exercise, not only keeps you
fit but keeps your reflexes and eye-hand
coordination sharp and exercises your
brain. Besides, it’s fun!
