Basic American Sign Language - ASL Basic

This course will explore the very basics of signing. We will begin with fingerspelling because many signs use the alphabet and because you can finger spell words you do not know. Facial expression will be emphasized. Some cultural aspects of the Deaf Community will be included in this course. We will look at approximately 75 basic signs and phrases that can be used for communication with the Deaf community. They can also be used with grandchildren that learn signs at an early age. Sign language can also help with couples that are facing loss of hearing. Sign cues can be helpful when language begins to breakdown.
