French Classes at Sun City
French 101 - 102: This is a beginning conversation course, which means, the focus is on building the language skills you need to have meaningful, real-life conversations in French. By the end of the course you will be able to introduce yourself and ask and answer typical questions. Because you can't learn a language if you don't speak it, you will be given ample opportunities to speak French in class through communicative activities such as dialogs and interviews. There is no pressure! There are no tests! There are no grades! Just join us and have fun! Best of all - it's free. Well almost! You will need to join the ILLC.
French 201 - 202: Students, who have completed the 100 series or have some prior knowledge, are invited to participate in the 200 series. This series is conversation based and grammatical concepts and vocabulary are taught 'as needed'. To help you gain an understanding of cultural differences between U.S. culture and the cultures of French-speaking countries, authentic situations are the focus of the dialogues in our textbook 'E-Z French'. Everyone participates at whatever level works for them. There is no pressure.... There are no tests.... There are no grades.... Just join us and have some fun!
French 301 - 302 You have already learned a considerable amount of vocabulary and grammar. It is now time to aim at practical applications, setting the stage for personal interactions, and above all, an understanding of the target culture. Through dialogues that illustrate practical, interesting, and culturally relevant conversational situations, you will learn useful, high frequency conversational phrases that will enhance your conversational skills. Grammar is taught 'as needed'.
Our Pre-Conversation Class and the Conversation Class will continue indefinitely. The focus of these classes is on speaking and listening. Thus, we will conduct interviews, create dialogs, make short presentations and enjoy a range of other communicative activities. Through a variety of texts, you will steadily improve your vocabulary. We will strive to speak as correctly as is possible at these levels. Therefore, grammar will be addressed and practiced in settings where they have a practical application.
French for Travelers is a 5-week class, teaching you the basic phrases and vocabulary needs for traveling in French-speaking country. We will also discuss various aspects of the French culture, as well as how to deal with the public transportation system, especially in Paris.

This class has been designed to provide painless practice with all the components of the French language. How can it be "painless"? By reading French mystery and other engaging stories and playing fun games to practice vocabulary, numbers, verb conjugations etc. Each week will be different.
