Fund Raising Events

THE BACKGROUND Each year Women Helping Others assists selected community-based organizations to meet their funding and program goals through support for 5 main fundraisers to which our members volunteer their time and talents. These events are organized at the club level by the Director of Fund Raising and are considered "Third-Party" fundraisers.

A third-party fundraiser is where a group such as WHO; campaigns, advertises, and raises money for another designated nonprofit. The money raised does not go into the WHO treasury, but instead goes directly to the nonprofit. Our contribution to each event is coordinated by WHO members and the leadership of the supported nonprofit. These fundraisers are annual affairs which we collaborate with the recipient organization to assure their success.

Below you will find a brief summary of some of our annual officially supported 3rd party events.

FUND RAISING EVENTS COORDINATED BY WHO

This is the parent organization through which WHO members support Meals on Wheels (MOW) and Head Start. We currently participate in two annual events benefiting these programs in meeting their service goals. The first fundraiser for MOW was held in 2012 after members discovered that our local MOW had a waiting list that included some of our Sun City neighbors. WHO sprung into action to eliminate this waiting list and expand the service of meals to more seniors in need. In recent years, the WHO awareness and publicity campaign promoting donations by members and expanding throughout Sun City NRO for this much needed service have resulted in matching grants from area foundations.

ABOUT OWBC: Their goal is to empower children, families and seniors to achieve and maintain independence by providing education, nutrition, housing and community support. In 2020 OWBC conducted a community needs assessment which guides their planning. OWBC is located at 604 High Tech Drive,  Georgetown, TX 78626,  (512) 763-1400. When event dates are determined for this year, they will be posted here. To learn more about how to get involved, contact Nina Stancil.
