Indulge in a little ‘island time’ this holiday season as we explore this Texas seaport along with some very interesting tales of pirates, plantations, and Thanksgiving traditions. Wednesday Our trip to the coast will take us through the history of Galveston Island and the role it has played in shaping Texas. We arrive for an early lunch and time to explore the Texas Seaport Museum, the 1877 tall ship Elyssa, and the historical Strand District. Mid-afternoon we will take a self-guided tour of the magnificent Moody Mansion and then check into our posh digs in time to see the sun set across the bay. Dinner will be on your own at the hotel. Morning snack and all tours included today. Thursday Happy Thanksgiving! Chart your own course as you explore the attractions of Moody Gardens and indulge in a sumptuous Thanksgiving Day buffet lunch. Your attractions pass will give you entry to the Rainforest Pyramid, with its rare and exotic plants, flowers, birds and monkeys, the Aquarium Pyramid, where you can discover the Oceans of the World along with penguins, otters, stingrays and sharks, and the Discovery Pyramid, featuring da Vinci – the Exhibit, a stunning display of fully-built, life-size inventions. Your pass also includes a tour through Iceland, where a complete rainforest has been carved out of ice, creating a magical world of ancient ruins, incredible butterflies, colorful orchids, and wild creatures. Ride the ice slide, check out Shiver's Ice Bar, and take a stroll through the Festival of Lights where 100 million lights on over 100 sound enhanced animated displays will lead you down the path into that most joyous time of the year. Breakfast, buffet lunch and attraction pass included today. Friday Heading south along the coast road to explore a bit more Texas history, we visit Stephen F. Austin Historical Park, Varner Hogg Plantation, and West Columbia, the first Capitol of the Republic of Texas. Homeward bound, we will try our hand at some Texas critter racing and finish up with some Thanksgiving trivia and treats. Breakfast, snack and tours included today.
