The Atmospheric Sciences SIG will have a presentation on February 1 at 1:30 pm at Jarrell/Walburg
rooms by meteorologist
Brett Williams on NOAA weather satellites. He'll discuss what they
are, and how they are used.
He'll also go into detail on all the new things on-board GOES-R (the
new satellite that was launched in November) and how it will help us improve
our forecasting and prediction of severe weather. The GOES-R series satellites
will provide continuous imagery and atmospheric measurements of Earth’s Western
Hemisphere, total lightning data, and space weather monitoring to provide
critical atmospheric, hydrologic, oceanic, climatic, solar and space data.
