Friendly Reminder: No Swimming in Ponds
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director

With the summer heat already upon us and grandkids visiting, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that our community ponds, including the fishing ponds, are off limits for swimming. I know you say, who in the world would want to swim in these snake infested ponds, but we have seen some adults allowing young children to get into them and want to make this reminder that it is prohibited and UNSAFE.

Thank you all for your help in enforcing and abiding by this rule.

Important Upcoming Fitness Dates to Remember

  • The Texas Drive and Cowan Creek Lap Pools will open on Monday, June 22. Reservations are required. You may schedule up to five times a week in 45-minute increments. Registration begins at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16.
  • Lap lane limit is two people per lane if at capacity, opposite direction swimming or water walking just like before facilities closed.
  • On Monday, June 22 the capacity in all outdoor pools will increase. Registration begins at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16.
  • Monday, July 6, we will bring back group fitness classes indoors. More details to come.
  • Monday, July 6, our hours of operation will be extended which means more gym and outdoor pool hours. You will also be allowed to reserve more times per week.
  • The locker-rooms and indoor/outdoor spas are still closed at this time.
  • Remember you must have a separate reservation for the gym, outdoor pools and lap pools. We know it’s a lot, but this helps us be able to keep within our capacity.
  • Masks are still required when walking to the pool areas and moving about inside the fitness centers. Please socially distance yourself inside the fitness areas and pool areas as much as possible. We appreciate your cooperation.

Thank you to all the residents who have been supportive in our transitional plans to reopen the fitness centers and pools. If you haven’t been able to reserve a time at the pool, we hope adding more space in the upcoming weeks will help alleviate that issue. Please remember these transitional plans are new for all of us. We appreciate your patience as we are doing the best we can for everyone’s health and safety. These are trying times and we understand all these extra steps are challenging for all of us. Keep in mind we are doing our best to not spread the virus around Sun City.
Updates and Re-Openings

As Sun City Texas begins to re-open facilities on a transitional basis, remember that it is an individual choice to participate in any CA activity or to enter a venue. Anyone who chooses to participate is doing so at their own risk. Please take your personal safety and the safety of others seriously during this particularly difficult time.

The following clubs and organizations have submitted transitional guidelines to use CA facilities. Please click the below link to view their board approved transitional guidelines:

Roof Repairs & Replacements
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman,
Community Standards Director, 512-948-7461

Roof patching, partial roof replacement or full roof replacement does not require an application or Modifications Committee approval as long as the new shingles have a warranty that is equivalent to, or better than, the warranty of the shingles being replaced. A pre-approved shingle color must be used.  Samples of the approved shingle colors are available on the CA website and in the Community Standards Department Customer Service Office in the Social Center. Partial roof replacement and full roof replacement does require a building permit from the City of Georgetown.

Special note about cottage homes. Both units of a cottage must be re-roofed in its entirety at the same time by the same contractor using equal or better-quality asphalt shingles. No exceptions. An approved shingle color must be used. If the roof only requires minor repairs, the exact style and quality shingles of must be used to make the repair.
Shingle Colors

If you are considering replacing your roof and need information on shingle colors from Community Standards, please click here for the document on roof colors or email [email protected].
Contractor Signs
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman, Community Standards Director, 512-948-7461

Contractors may display a sign advertising their company only during the hours they are actively working on the home. Inspectors will attempt to make contact with homeowners to explain the rules before asking them to remove the sign. If an inspector can’t make contact with the homeowner, the sign will be removed.
Reflective Address Markings
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman
Community Standards Director

Recently, a non-community member has been putting flyers in mailboxes offering to paint your home’s address number with reflective paint on the curb in front of your home for a $25 donation. The person making the offer claims that having the address painted on the curb will greatly assist all police, fire or emergency services units responding to an emergency in finding your home.

Fortunately, most residents ignored this offer recognizing that all homes in the community have lighted address plates and that emergency vehicles have Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems that assist them in finding the location of an emergency. The Design Guidelines prohibits the painting of reflective house numbers on street curbs.
Native Area Maintenance Update
Submitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area Superintendent, 512-948-7792

There's a lot of tall grass out there! We’ve already had two mowers go down, but they should be back up and running by Monday, June 15.

Although the majority of this process can handled by our mowers, there are some areas that are less accommodating and will need to be handled with line trimmers. The workers with line trimmers can be up to two weeks behind the mowers. All cuttings will be left where they fall. This is a Fire Wise exercise only, and not for aesthetic, or any other purpose.
