| Water Matters Budgets & BarrelsSubmitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent, 512-948-7792, [email protected]
There are some fair to good rain chances this weekend and into next week, keep an eye on the forecasts and be ready to turn off your irrigation controller. A ˝ inch of rain with current temperatures can allow us to not irrigate for a week.
If you are into Rain Water Harvesting, the City of Georgetown is running a promotion on rain barrels. Click Here for details.
I am continuing my two day per week watering schedule in the common areas, but I am using a 75% water budget; stations that would normally run an hour will only run for 45 minutes. The water budget feature, or seasonal adjustment on some controllers, is an easy way to increase or decrease water to the landscape for all stations on a controller without having to individually alter each station. With the cooler temperatures, overwatering the landscape is invitation to molds and fungus to take hold and damage valuable plant material and turf.
If you need assistance with your landscape irrigation system, the Water Matters Team is available to help familiarize you with it. If you need help setting up your controller, or would like a complete and thorough evaluation of your irrigation system, send an email to [email protected] , or contact your Neighborhood Representative. A Water Matters Ambassador will come to your home to assist you.

Second Round of Native Area Mowing to BeginSubmitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent, 512-948-7792, [email protected]
During the first week of October, we are planning to begin our second round of maintenance in the Native Common Areas. CA staff will be cutting according to the CA Maintenance Plan which requires a 10’ – 30’ wide strip adjacent to property lines.
After much discussion, it has been decided that we will no longer be alternating our maintenance path through the campus. It will be consistent going forward. The only changes made will be to accommodate newly developed areas acquired by the CA. Below is a list of our neighborhoods and the order we plan to follow. Although the majority of this process can handled by our mowers, there are some areas that are less accommodating and will need to be handled with line trimmers. The Line Trimmers can be up to two weeks behind the mowers. All cuttings will be left where they fall. This is a Fire Wise exercise only, and not for aesthetic, or any other purpose.
