POKER FACES

The Poker Club held a Texas Hold’em
No Limit tournament on June 13 with
40 members participating in the event.
Congratulations to Verda Conner Riggs
for winning the tournament with Lynvia

of plants, including salvias, red yucca
and grey lambs ear to the front beds
where they complement original plant-
ings of loropetalum, dwarf nandina and
dwarf yaupon. The narrow bed beside
the driveway, originally planted with
crepe myrtle, contains a multitude of
colorful plants. With the advent of sum-
mer, the Jerusalem sage and Shasta
daisies are fading and the bee balm is
no longer blooming. But yellow lantana,
purple coneflower, yarrow and salvias
in a variety of colors have taken their
place. And Candy recently added sever-
al native snow-on-the-mountain for late
summer and fall color. In the backyard,
most plants are kept low to emphasize a
stunning long vista across meadow and
trees. Tall exceptions include a Black
Diamond crepe myrtle and red Knock-
out roses. A patch of cosmos along the
back fence adds a pop of gold. Skull-
cap, plumbago, Mexican mint marigold,
lion’s tail, Gregg’s mistflower and more
salvias ensure something is blooming
any time of the year. Candy admits she
