The Poker Club held a Texas Hold’em
No Limit tournament on February 14
with 40 members participating in the
event. Congratulations to Shirley Fisher

green leaves. Among the leaves, Susan
spots tiny fruit, not yet the size of a
dime. If it doesn’t freeze again this win-
ter, there will be peaches for pies and
eating out of hand. Another early plant
is the simple white iris forming clumps
here and there in the garden. Already
a few are flowering. Bluebonnets and
poppies are growing rapidly, preparing
for a great display in March and April.
Other, later blooming plants are also
showing signs of life. Standing cypress,
Henry Dahlberg salvia, Turk’s cap and
fall obedient plant have started out of
the ground. The oakleaf hydrangea is
leafless but buds are showing. For a few
plants, it’s still a question whether they
made it through January’s freeze. The
spectacular coralbean, with its huge red
flower spikes, and the thyrallis, a shrub
that produces yellow flower clusters all
