FOX HUNTERS
Ham radio operators Hal
Miles and John Scott,
using a homemade di-
rection finding antenna,
were the first hunt team
to find a transmitter
(the “Fox”) hidden by
the winners of August’s
hunt. Attached to the an-
tenna’s boom is an atten-
uator (narrows the Fox’s
signal thereby increasing
the antenna’s effective-
ness) a transceiver and
a compass.
This monthly Saturday
morning radio hunt is
sponsored by Sun City’s
Amateur Radio Society
to hone members’ radio
operation and signal-
tracking skills. Each
month’s winners hide
the “Fox” somewhere in
Sun City for the follow-
ing month’s hunt.
