The Texas Ranger Museum, our final destination, was established
in 1823. The Texas Rangers, some of the most colorful heroes
in American history, brought peace to an untamed frontier and
have become one of the most famous and respected crime-fighting
forces in the nation. Enjoy an introductory 45-minute movie
followed by free time to explore.

Sunday dinner at Perry’s
Steakhouse in downtown Austin will feature
their ‘two inch high’ center cut pork chop. From Thursday, January 21, $28 pp
its humble beginnings as a meat market in
1979, Perry’s has stayed true to serving the very finest cuts
of meat. Their pork chops are smoked, roasted, caramelized
and then topped with herb-garlic butter sauce. The pork chop
is fabulous and can be eaten with a fork! Accompanying the
pork chop is homemade applesauce and tea or coffee. Additional
beverages may be purchased. ‘Dessert Trio’ consisting of Vanilla
Crème Brulee, Grand Marnier Chocolate Truffle and Praline
Cheesecake concludes this delicious feast.
Note: We will be seated upstairs in the Capitol Room, so
you must be able to climb stairs. Also, we are traveling
in the small bus which has no amenities, and the ride
could be bumpy.
As we leave the restaurant, we will see the horseshoe-shaped
Bar 79 named in honor of the 1979 founding date, along with
their vault and private wine holdings.

“Nazi Olympics 1936” – UT Stark Center
Austin

“The Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936”
exhibit is a must see, according to the Austin
American Statesman. With photographs,
vintage videos and accounts from athletes,
learn how Hitler manipulated the two-week Olympic Games to
his advantage. UT’s Olympic champion swimmer Adolph Kiefer
remembers meeting Hitler and the tension that permeated the air
during the games. At a cost of $100,000 to UT and its sponsors,
three large trucks delivered 91 crates of historic material for this

exhibit. Learn about the hidden side of Berlin and the politics
behind this sporting event.
After viewing the exhibit, we will stroll through the UT Alumni
House where the UT greats hang out before the football games.
View the football championship trophies, the Heisman Trophy
award and numerous other UT football awards in the Trophy
Room, as well as the Walk of Fame corridor.
Lastly, enjoy lunch at Flix Brewhouse. Chow down on a large,
tasty hamburger with French fries complete with a beer tasting
of six of their core beers or iced tea or soda.
Note: No other meal options available. Travel will be in a
small bus with no amenities and a possible bumpy ride.

SAS Factory Tour & El Mercado

First we will head to the San
Antonio El Mercado where you can grab a late
breakfast, an early lunch or shop at El Mercado,
the largest Mexican shopping center in the city.
Restaurants include Mi Tierra Café & Bakery and La Margarita
Restaurant & Oyster Bar, as well as food vendors in the market.
At noontime we will head to the SAS Factory and General Store
for a tour of their handcrafted shoes. Most of their shoes have
polyurethane soles that cushion your feet on millions of tiny
air bubbles so you are literally walking on air. You will have a
chance to win a pair of shoes! Step back in time and shop in the
General Store with a complete line of SAS shoes and handbags.
Enjoy a sweet treat in the candy store or ice cream parlor. Vintage
cars and early farm equipment are displayed around the store.

First we head to Fort Sam Houston in
San Antonio to learn about the 200+ year
history of the Army Medical Department. A
short film and introduction by the museum’s
curator will prepare us to explore the exhibits and grounds which
include battlefield medicine, patient evacuation, equipment
evolution, a restored hospital train car, modern wheeled
