way over to Miami, ventured south to
Buenos Aires, and then finally voyaged
all the way down to Ushuaia, Argentina.
Located at 54 degrees south, Ushuaia
is the southernmost city in the world.
Here they boarded the Marco Polo of
the Orient Lines – the ship which took
them to Antarctica, allowing Joyce to
take that rocky, penultimate step at
the age of 69. Later that same year,
Joyce published a travelogue of her
intercontinental adventures, titled
“Seven Before Seventy: One Woman’s
Quest for the Seven Continents.”
Today, Joyce Brooks is active in the
N57 social committee, handles travel
for Zoomers and is a ticket-taker for the
CA. For someone who has traveled to
118 countries and led over 200 tours,
she is quite down to earth and a joy to
meet. Remember: We are all continents
floating in a sea of humanity; it’s great
to be visited.
